Udupi, May 15: As repairs on Agumbe Ghat roads are completed, Shivamogga deputy commissioner K A Dayanand has notified that light vehicles such as mini buses, jeeps, vans, cars and two wheelers will be allowed to ply on the roads from Thursday May 16.
"As 18 days are necessary for curing of concrete works, the remaining light commercial vehicles (LCVs) will be permitted from June 1. Till then, such vehicles will take a detour via Thirthahalli – Masthikatte – Hosangady – Siddapura - Udupi and Thirthahalli – Koppa – Sringeri – Malaghat – Karkala – Udupi," stated DC Hephsiba Rani Korlapati in a press release.

There were landslides in some places on Agumbe Ghats during last monsoons affecting vehicular traffic. Besides, Agumbe Ghat roads were upgraded as national highway.
Therefore, concreting of the Ghat stretch was taken up during the last few months. Traffic was banned and alternative routes were arranged for vehicles.
Now that work is completed, light vehicles are allowed on the road. Permission for use of all the vehicles will be allowed in phases.
