Mangaluru, May 14: The alleged abduction of a girl from Kalathur, Kerala that sparked group clashes in Bantwal on the night of Monday May 13 has taken a twist with the girl and the alleged 'kidnapper' releasing a video, apparently married and declaring that they tied the knot of their own will without any external force.
In the minute-long video, the boy introduces himself as Suprith (25) and says that he has been in love with the girl, Panchami (21), for the past seven years. "Our parents and relatives were opposed to our affair and rejected our wish to marry each other," he says.
Wanting to marry and live together despite their families' opposition, Suprith picked Panchami from her house in Kalathur, Kumble on Monday morning and eloped to Karnataka. On Tuesday May 14, they got married, says Suprith, asserting that no third person was involved, and that they had married of their own will.
In the video, Panchami says she is happy to be with Suprith and is facing no trouble from him. She states that she voluntarily eloped with Suprith as she loves him.
It is learnt that after getting married at Arya Samaj, Balmatta here, the couple made the video and sent to their family and friends to put all rumours about the alleged 'kidnapping' to rest.
It may be recalled that rumours had spead in Kalathur and Kumble that a 'minor' girl, the daughter of a school headmaster, had been 'kidnapped' by a youth of another community on Monday morning. A complaint was also lodged in Kumble police station by the girl's parents. Several locals started a search for the girl, and on receiving information that a white Bolero jeep had been used by the youth, they forcibly stopped several private vehicles at Uppala in the hope of finding the girl. In Bantwal's Vittal area too, some people who claimed to be the girl's relatives forcibly checked vehicles, and particularly chased a Bolero and waylaid it. As the situation grew tense, police came to the spot and used baton on the crowd to control the situation.
