Bengaluru: Software engineer, associate charged of Rs 5.9 crore fraud

Bengaluru, May 14: A software engineer aged 35 from the city, and his associate working from the USA, have been accused of cheating a firm by diverting funds to the tune of Rs 5.9 crore. This complaint has been filed by Madhusudhan D S, who happens to be the associate president of Hinduja Global Solutions having its BPO at Garvebhavipalya here.

The case stands filed in Bandepalya police station. The police have begun investigation into the allegation of siphoning off the funds of the company through fraudulent means.

The accused have been named as Ramesh Kamaiah, software engineer, and his associate at USA, Nova Lam. They have been charged with cheating and criminal breach of trust besides crimes under several other sections of IT Act. However, no arrests have been made so far.

Madhusudhan said in his complaint that Kamaiah began to work as senior process consultant of his company on November 22, 2017. Kamaiah was entrusted with the work of handling the company's clients’ financial accounts and online transactions and other activities connected with finances of the company. Kamaiah and Lam had created an email account - unlimited-premiumhackers@gmail.com and began to use it for financial communications. Through a series of transactions, they diverted funds to different bank accounts in USA to the detriment of the company which faced losses as a result, the complainant has claimed.

After getting complaint from one of the clients, the company conducted internal inquiry which found that fraudulent transactions were put through between March 3 and April 29 this year. The inquiry also found that Kamaiah had created a fake email account through which illegal transactions were carried out. After transferring US $ 8.55 lac to different accounts in USA, with the support of his associate in the USA, he had deleted all financial transaction details.

A spokesperson of the company said that the company will strictly monitor processes to make sure that things of this nature do not recur.

The police have asked for a copy of the internal inquiry report of the company in this regard. They have asked Kamaiah to be present before them for interrogation.
