Bengaluru, May 14: In an intelligent attempt aimed at undermining the efforts being made by the jail staff to stop illegal items being smuggled into prisons, a woman recently delivered ganja to her imprisoned husband, by concealing it under Biryani. The incident happened on May 8 at Parappana Agrahara jail here. The officials have since registered complaint against under-trial prisoner, Nagaraj, and his wife,Pavitra K, in Parappana Agrahara police station.
Nagaraj alias Naga is currently in jail as he has been named as accused in a murder case which happened in 2018 within the limits of Varthur police station. His wife, Pavitra, had come to the jail to meet here husband at around 5.30 pm on May 8. After speaking to Nagaraj for sometime, Pavitra went back after handing over a bag containing food. Nagaraj was about to return to his barrack with the food his wife gave him, when a jail officer, Dileep Hangaragi, got suspicious, and subjected the bag to thorough examination. It was found that under Biryani stuffed into two stainless steel containers, 450 grams of ganja had been concealed. The officials seized the ganja immediately.
The police have registered the case and begun investigation..Pavitra is absconding, and an operation to take her into custody has been launched, a senior officer said. The officials will also try to find out how Pavitra got ganja and whether Naga was supplying ganja to other inmates of the jail.
