Kalaburagi, May 12: Triggering a controversy, Congress leader Mallikarjuna Kharge on Sunday May 12 asked if Prime Minister Narendra Modi would 'hang himself' if, contrary to the PM's claims, the Congress gets more than 40 seats in the Lok Sabha elections.
Addressing a rally here, Kharge added to the low level of political discourse during the ongoing elections when he said, "Wherever he (Modi) goes, he keeps saying that Congress will not win 40 seats. Do you believe that? If Congress wins more than 40 seats, will Modi hang himself at Vijay Chowk in Delhi?"
In his recent statements, PM Modi had said that the Congress' tally would be even lower than the last Lok Sabha elections, and that it would not get more than 40 seats.
Recently, PTI had quoted Modi as saying, "Don't waste your vote. Better to vote for a party that is coming to power and you can strengthen it with your vote. The only question now is if the BJP will better its own 2014 tally."
This was not the first time in recent days that Kharge was hitting out at PM Modi. When the PM had termed former PM the late Rajiv Gandhi as 'corrupt number 1', Kharge had said that Modi had been taught lessons in cultural values as he had left home at an young age, and said he should have control over his tongue.
