Udupi: Giant stingray fish caught by boat from Malpe

Udupi, May 12: A deep sea fishing boat that had sailed off from Malpe port found that a giant stingray fish was caught in its net. The fishermen of the area were taken aback by the sheer size of the fish, which weighed 1,200 kg.

The fish got entangled in the net spread out by 'Vighnaraj -2' boat owned by Mithun Kunder from Kola in Malpe. The fish was shifted to the shore at Malpe with the help of a crane.

This kind of fish is considered tasty and is also exported abroad. The sight of such a gigantic fish kindled the taste buds of the connoisseurs of seafood. The fish is called 'Thorake' or 'Kombu Thorake' in Tulu.

The boat had left the shore ten days back. This fish was captured three days back at a depth of about 100 metres. It is said that the fish was sold at 50 rupees per kg.
