Mysore, Apr 6: Pramod Mutalik, controversial leader of Sri Rama Sene, was arrested by Mysore police when he tried to visit the communally disturbed area on Monday.
Mutalik and his associates were detained near the superintendent of police office, in Nazarbad on preventive custody.
According to the police, Mutalik, known for his firebrand speeches, may incite communal tension. He will be produced before the court by evening, the police said.
It may be recalled that Mutalik was banned from entering the district by Mangalore district administration. Goa also banned him after he threatened his campaign against 'night light' and 'pub culture'.
Senior police officers including Additional Director General of Police (Law and order) A R Infant are camping in the area to supervise the situation.
The situation in Gayatripuram in Kyatamaranahalli and Ghousia Nagar is under control, said a police.
