Kerala man declared dead in Mangaluru hospital found alive in Kannur mortuary

Mangaluru, Jan 15: What was thought to be a tragic end for 67-year-old Pavithran from Kannur turned into a miraculous twist of fate when he came back to life just hours before his funeral.

Pavithran had been battling severe respiratory issues and was admitted to a private hospital in Mangaluru. Despite being placed on a ventilator, his condition worsened rapidly. Doctors, after futile attempts at treatment, informed the family that there was no hope. On Monday evening, they declared him dead after withdrawing life support, with the hospital advising the family to settle his medical dues before moving forward with the funeral.

The grieving family, who had already prepared for the final rites, arranged for Pavithran’s body to be transported to his hometown in Kannur. The five-hour ambulance ride from Mangaluru to Kannur was meant to be his final journey. Funeral preparations were underway when, in a stunning turn of events, Pavithran’s story took a miraculous turn.

As his body was being moved to the mortuary at AKG Hospital in Kannur, two staff members noticed a slight twitch in his hand. Initially dismissed as a reflex, the observant attendants, electrician Anoop and night supervisor R Jayan, quickly checked for a pulse. Realizing there was life, they rushed Pavithran to the emergency wing, where doctors confirmed that he was indeed alive.

By dawn, Pavithran regained consciousness, leaving everyone stunned. "He looked at me," his wife, Sudha, recalled, still in shock. The family’s grief turned to disbelief as Pavithran, who had been presumed dead just hours earlier, began responding to treatment in the ICU.

This miraculous revival has raised serious questions about the accuracy of death confirmation at the Mangaluru hospital. Doctors had warned the family that Pavithran wouldn’t survive more than 10 minutes after life support was removed, yet he defied all odds.

The family is now considering legal action, questioning how such a grave error could have occurred. What was supposed to be a funeral has instead turned into a miraculous second chance at life for Pavithran, with his family left grappling with the disbelief and shock of his unexpected revival.

Indeed miracle... What if he had regained consciousness at night in the mortuary???.. Horror movie scene hojata.... Mortuary staff behosh!!🤣. Jokes apart.... This is utter negligence of Doctors... They would have cremated him alive or buried him alive based on his religious practice.... Family need to thank the Mortuary staff who saw his reflexes/twitches and yet didn't ignore but immediately took him to emergency ward....
