Mangaluru, May 6: A girl who suffered from a facial deformity which had severe upper jaw retrusion (retro gnathic maxilla) leading to problem in chewing, occlusion and aesthetic concerns underwent a correction surgery at Srinivas Hospital recently.
The patient initially underwent orthodontic correction (alignment of teeth) by Dr Siddharth for a period of one year. This was followed by orthognathic surgery which was performed by Oral and Maxillofacial surgeons under general anaesthesia where the upper jaw is advanced to achieve appropriate occlusion and desired facial proportion (Lefort I Osteotomy with advancement).
The entire procedure was carried out intraorally. The patient and her family were very much pleased with the outcome.
Srinivas Hospital with the team of specialists’ doctors and facial surgeons successfully carried out these surgeries. The team was headed by Prof Dr Manoj Varma (dean, Srinivas Institute of Dental Sciences, Mukka), Dr Keshav Bhat (HOD, dept of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery), Dr Rajeet Shetty, Dr Vidyachandra.
