Panaji, Apr 5: Goa’s apex industrial body has raised its concern towards state’s hostile attitude towards the industrial growth, which has resulted in wedging employment potential.
“In the scenario when there is a drop by 10-15 per cent in tourism sector; there are about one lakh unemployed youth in the State and no major industries coming to Goa, we busy protesting, discriminating and agitating,” Goa Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI) President Nitin Cuncolienkar commented.
The GCCI President delivering his welcome address for the closing ceremony of the GCCI Centenary celebrations insisted that Goa needs to find way out to tackle the employment and industrial crisis, it is facing.
“It has become a fashion to protest every development project or an industry in the State,” he said.
Terming activists as `handful of protestors’, the GCCI President said that the time is ripe for the industry and like-minded people to oppose these agitators. “We all need to agitate and if need be we can come at loggerheads with such agitators,” Cuncolienkar stated.
He conceded that in the guise of development there has been mismanagement. “But you cannot oppose all the projects,” he added.
The GCCI President felt that Goa should have at least two to three Special Economic Zones, which will address the unemployment crisis.
He also said that the State does not want polluting industries but we definitely need IT or Pharma industries to come up.
Cuncolienkar lambasted activists for ignoring vital issues like drug menace plaguing state’s coastline. “Drugs has spoiled the image of the State as it is freely available anywhere but these agitators will not take up that issue for obvious reasons,” he charged.
“During elections these people disappear from the scene or go on holidays are hardly seen opposing anything,” he said.
