Bengaluru, May 5: A twitter campaign under the hashtag of #KarnatakaJobsForKannadigas is started at around 6 pm on Saturday, May 4 by the pro-Kannada organizations in the state such as Karunada Sevakaru and other like-minded associations.
The Twitteratti are saying that Kannadigas should get preference in the jobs that are available in the state. They are also questioning the suitability of recruiting people who do not know the Kannada language for jobs in banks in the state.
This campaign looks similar to a campaign started by the people of Tamil Nadu under the hashtag #TamilNaduJobsForTamils that was held recently which created lot of noise in that state.
The main slogan of the campaign is that this is not dictatorship but the right of the people of Karnataka. The intention of the campaign is to fill all government job vacancies by Kannadigas. Due to the changes in the rules of Indian Banking Personnel Selection (IBPS), several thousand opportunities are lost by Kannadigas in the last five years. If the same situation continues, there is a possibility that even in the small and medium scale sector, the labourers from other states will take over the jobs. So the twitter campaign is asking more and more people to take part and join hands.
The aim of the campaign is to secure at least four to six million tweets. Sandalwood actor Ajay Krishna Rao has already extended his support to this campaign. In addition, to jobs some of the twitter campaigners are urging for conducting the various entrance exams in Kannada language only.
One of the tweets mentioned the lack of Kannadigas in the department of Railways. The tweet said that "Jobs in Railways seem to be meant only for Tamilians and North Indians, who speak Hindi. Why Kannadigas are not preferred? At least, let them recruit Kannadigas in Karnataka.
Chief minister of the state H D Kumaraswamy has expressed is whole-hearted support for the campaign. In his twitter account he said, "I will take suggestion from the concerned people how to bring this campaign under the legal frame work."
Now this hashtag is trending. It may be recalled that pro-Kannada organizations are fighting for the reservation of jobs for Kannadigas in government, government-owned and private sectors in the state since a long time.
