Bengaluru, May 4: A girl student, who reportedly was under pressure to pursue the study of interior design which was not a subject of her interest, hanged herself. The victim has been identified as Karma Dema (21), a native of Bhutan.
Karma Dema, it is said, took this extreme step as she did not like to study interior design but was forced to pursue that course. She was a student of Acharya School of Design at Soladevanahalli in the outskirts of the city. She was found hanging in the college hostel on Thursday May 2.
It is gathered that the girl student, on her return from the college at 12.15 pm that day, locked herself in the hostel room. Her roommates who tried to enter the room knocked at the door for long but got no response. Sensing something fishy, they got in touch with the hostel officials. Thereafter, the police were informed.
The hostel room was broken open in the presence of police, and it was found that the girl student was hanging. During their preliminary investigations, the police did not find any suicide note. However, they got the indication that Karma Dema was frustrated at having been pressurized to undergo interior design course. Her subject of interest was journalism.
The victim's parents, T B Chetri, a teacher by profession, and mother, Nerupa, reached Bengaluru on Friday. They told the police that Dema had spoken to her mother on Wednesday night and there was no indication of her disturbed state of mind. The parents, who are in a state of disbelief and shock, also claimed that they had no idea why their daughter took this extreme step.
