Kundapur: Man absconds after murdering elder brother for giving sane advice
In a macabre incident which happened at Bavaladi in Bijoor near Byndoor, a person killed his elder brother by hitting him with a cudgel in drunken state. The incident happened late night on Thursday May 2 and came to light with inordinate delay on Friday.
Reports say that the family members of the deceased tried their best to keep the murder under wraps but the incident came to light as the locals got suspicious. The murder-accused has been identified as Santosh (21), and the man who paid by his life for giving good advice to his younger brother was Nagaraj (45), son of Kuppa from Chowki in Melmakki, Bavaladi village.
Santosh
Nagaraj and Santosh, two among the 12 children of Kuppa Koraga, used to go together to work as coolies. On Thursday evening, both came home with another person, Babu, all of whom were fully drunk. At around 9 pm that day, Nagaraj, after dinner, was speaking to his brother-in-law, Babu, inside a temporary shed in the courtyard. It is said that on that occasion, Nagaraj saw that Santosh was moving about in briefs. Nagaraj, who observed this, questioned Santosh about moving about with only skimpy clothes on at a place where women folk are present, it is said. Angered by this remark, Santosh picked up a cudgel, belonging to his father that was kept nearby and attacked Nagaraj with it in his head, face, and legs. Nagaraj, who was already fully drunk, collapsed to the ground. When Babu tried to intervene and save Nagaraj, Santosh assaulted him too. Although Nagaraj's sister who was at home treated Nagaraj, he breathed his last during the late hours the same night. Santosh, who found that Nagaraj had died, went missing. Injured Babu was admitted into the government hospital at Byndoor for treatment.
The family members who realized that the unfortunate murder of a family member had taken place under the influence of liquor, tried their best to cover up the incident. They realized that if a case is registered, they will lose another family member. Therefore, they prepared to conduct the funeral of Nagaraj without informing others, it is said. But the locals who came there, observed injuries on the face of Nagaraj, and blood that had splashed on the ground. They further saw that Santosh had gone missing. They therefore informed Byndoor police station. The police, who visited the spot, questioned the family members and came to know about the murder.
Nagaraj has left behind his wife and children. A case has been registered in Byndoor police station, and efforts are now being made to find out the whereabouts of the murder-accused.
