Mangaluru, May 3: Trucks transporting fish and spilling waste water on the roads, making the entire area stinky and messy was the main concern of callers during phone-in programme held at city police commissioner’s office, here on Friday, May 3.

DCP Crime and Traffic Laxmi Ganesh acknowledged of receiving similar complaints earlier. “We have started looking into this matter. We had a meeting with Road Transport Authorities and Lorry Association Owners and we have taken certain decisions to control this issue. We have mandated that fish should be stored in crates and trucks should be equipped with insulators. We have also issued notification that if trucks are found violating the regulations, the first penalty would be Rs 5,000 and if the violation is repeated the trucks will be seized.”

Two callers complained about parking issue near Lalbagh circle. Due to the recent extension work, motorists are facing hassles as there is no space for parking or for buses to halt. DCP Law and Order Hanumantharaya said ACP Traffic M Manjunath Shetty is already looking into the matter and will come up with a solution at the earliest.

A caller from Bejai Kapikad complained about bikers driving over the speed limit and having modified their silencers to emit loud noise, causing noise pollution. Also, the speeding could lead to accidents, he said.

Similarly another caller complained about noise being emitted from Bullet bikes. To both the callers, DCP Crime and Traffic Laxmi Ganesh assured to enforce special drives and also look into other alternatives to solve this issue.

Responding to a complainant about the bus stands in the city not being equipped with necessary shelter to protect people from rains or facilities that will be helpful for senior citizens or people with special needs, DCP Hanumantharaya assured to notify the appropriate authorities and ask them to take action on this issue.

A caller from Ambedkar Padu complained that around 60 families in the area face inconvenience as there is no bus facility from Ambedkar Padu to Mangaluru city. DCP Hanumantharaya assured to notify the appropriate committees and solve this issue at the earliest.

A caller from Moodbidri complained about negligence from the fire officials. In a recent fire that occurred, even after complaints, the fire department did not attend the issue and localities had to control the fire by pouring water, he complained.

DCP Hanumantharaya responded saying that they will look into this issue and also get in touch with the chief fire officer Shivshankar.

A caller complained about fake identity cards submitted at a hospital near Bunder Police station while another caller complained about a garage in Padil operating without a license. The Police said they will look into the respective issues.

As many as 24 calls were received during the phone-in programme.

DCP law and order Hanumantharaya, DCP Crime and Traffic Laxmi Ganesh, ACP Traffic M Manjunath Shetty and others were also present.

The phone-in programme is held every Friday from 10 am to 11 am, during which callers may call on 0824-2220530 or 0824-2220201 to directly express their grievances to the police commissioner.

All developed countries have a law that perishable items and frozen items have to be transported in refrigerated trucks. Unfortunately, here in India, even the packaged frozen items like Godrej / Venkys meat are transported from distributor to shops in open tempos or in normal vehicles. During long power failures, these items get defrosted and remain soaked in water, may be for days together before they are frozen again.

In Middle East, during long distance coverage, fish or any other frozen stuff has to be transported in refrigerated truck and the temperature chart during transportation has to be maintained. If the record shows that during transportation the temperature has crossed the limit, the stuff has to be dumped. There is no way the spoilt fish can enter the market. Let us learn something out of this.

We have not learnt how to Transport: Fresh/ Chilled/frozen fish still?

Every Fish vendor..should have proper Body of Truck...Fiber re enforced. ..
well designed Truck..closed..with Chiller/ Facility for Crushed ice...
till it reached the Retail/ Consumer.in Best/optimum freshness.
    Please learn from the Japanese/Koreans/Vietnamese/Chinese.
    what is going on?
    Use Logic/ Common sense.
Time for the Municipality to help them or Punish them severely includingImprisonment and heavy fines.

Yes.. To avoid this, they announce about the scarcity of water before hand through medias. After that, tell me how to call them? If called they say, we already announced or they say left the water. Very Sad thing is they leave water but no pressure. How the overhead tanks get filled up? Where's the source of water if there is no well or no sump or some place to keep extra tank? Another unbelievable fact is after 48 hours they leave water only to hi fi areas like shivabhagh etc etc and not the areas far from city. Why these are not people? Animals? They give water after 58 hours that too very very low unnoticeable pressure...

A very outstanding initiative by this Police Comissioner really commendable beyond words. Actually he is doing the job of corporaters, DC, MLAs and MPs. But as the old adage goes for every good deed there is equal and opposite evil response to defeat the hard earned and honest popularity by good deeds.
