Udupi: Lady 'doctor' befriends medical practitioner, tricks him to part with money

Daijiworld Media Network - Udupi (SP)

Udupi, May 3: A medical practitioner from near Brahmavar was cheated by his Facebook friend who introduced herself as a lady doctor practicing in London. The doctor has filed a complaint in this regard in cyber crime, economic offences and narcotics (CEN) police station here.

Dr Praveen Kumar (43) from Brahmavar Handadi in the district was befriended on Facebook by a person who claimed herself as Dr Camilla Gampi from London by sending him a friend request. After sometime since Dr Praveen accepted her friend request, the lady called him over phone on April 30 to inform him that she was stuck at the Delhi airport because of objections raised by customs officials. She claimed that she was in need of two lac rupees urgently to pay customs duty, duly clarifying that she has pound sterling currency in her possession, duly adding that the customs officers had refused accept that currency.

Believing that his friend is in trouble and is in need of Indian currency urgently, Dr Praveen transferred Rs 50,000 by way of Syndicate Bank's mobile app and balance Rs 1, 45,700 by RTGS. Thereafter his 'friend' was found to have switched off her cell phone.

Frustrated by this development, Dr Praveen Kumar has approached the police. The police have taken up investigation.

Cant believe a educated ,person fell on this trick to loose his hard earned money on this fellow. It is always same trick. They need urgent money ,not few hundred but in lacs. How he gave to a fellow he never seen or from own country? His brain should have given a larm when asking lacs.that too in airport.Customs dont accept shillings or pounds is a certainly fake. Here too there are tricky people who call and say as old peoples Grandaughter or grandson and want urgently money to pay house or buy bycle, etc. When these grannys believe, they dont give time to even go to bank, ask them to go with taxi and bring money. They will send their "agent" or friend to bring it.so some man stays at banks door or her house to take the cover and disappear before granny realizes it is a fakeone.many lost gold or thousands of Euros to these fake grandsons.

Swindler will never be caught! I know one more similar case last year with same tricks. Money lost could be lot more than mentioned in this article. Pity is even highly educated fall prey into such scams! It takes ages to file FIR and by the time investigation starts crooks have already gone and active with new identity and phones. Certainly these are Africans operating with the help of north Indians for bank accounts. Im sure it will not be very difficult if police willing since it is repeated stories.

Stupid physician's case is over... In spite of repeated alert messages given by the cyber crime branch or police personnel to not to become a prey in the hands of unknown people, we "educated illiterate" become brainless when a foreign lady/man comes into contact through f/b....my simple advice why you people go behind unknowns when we have our own people in locality/family/friend circle? Best place is to meet everyone is "santhes". Just visit once a week.. You will feel relaxed.

This is the best example of educated illiterate in the so called buddhivantara nadu. Nothing but effect of faking every one and every where and a so called true model of development. Don't worry the promised 15 lakh on the way in compensation.
