Somwarpet, May 3: The police personnel of Somwarpet station have succeeded in arresting a man who has been accused of murdering a woman and her daughter at Doddamalthe village near Somwarpet in Kodagu district. The accused, who had killed the duo in a macabre manner, has been identified as Dileep (39), a resident of Doddamalthe vilage.
Dileep reportedly has confessed to the police that he committed this heinous act because of dispute over property.

Kavita (45), wife of the late Veeraraju from Doddamalthe village and her daughter, Jagashree (17), who were standing near the gate of a coffee plantation at around 10.30 am on Tuesday April 30 had been hacked to death with a machete. The accused, after committing the murder, had reached his shop in the village dealing in poultry birds, and had occupied his seat there as if nothing had happened.
The arrest was made by a team led by Somwarpet circle inspector, Nanjunde Gowda and station house officer, Shivashankar, under the guidance of deputy superintendent of police, Dinakar Shetty and district superintendent of police, Sumana D Pannekar.
Dileep has been constructing a new house close to the property owned by Kavita. The site where he is building the house also has access by a pathway passing through Kavita's property. The two had a long-standing dispute over the right of using the said pathway and they quarreled often on this issue, it is learnt. Kavita had filed complaint against Dileep on this issue in the past, and a case had been registered in Somwarpet police station. The police said that their investigation has revealed that the said murders were committed because of enmity the accused was harbouring against Kavita.
