Bengaluru, May 1: The city received heavy rains accompanied by thunder and lightning on the evening of Tuesday, April 30 due to the effect of Fani cyclone.

Though the rain brought much needed relief from the heat, life of city dwellers was thrown out of gear because of the unexpected rain. Huge traffic jams were reported from areas like Shantinagar, Majestic, Attiguppe, Vijaynagar and Rajajinagar.

The Fani cyclone, which was centered at around 500 km from the city of Chennai on the evening of Tuesday, is moving towards Vishakpatnam in Andhra Pradesh and Puri in Odisha.

As per the meteorology department, the cyclone was to be at a safe distance from the land near the coast but Fani is passing over many parts of Andhra Pradesh, South interior Karnataka and Tamil Nadu.

In the next 24 hours light to moderate rains are expected in south interior parts of the state. Some parts may see intense rain for a short period. However, very heavy rains are ruled out at present.

The normal hot weather will return after 24 hours as per the weather forecast.
