Tumakuru, Apr 30: In a curious case, officials of Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) caught an assistant public prosecutor (APP) red-handed when accepting bribe from a client on Monday April 29. The identity of the APP has been given as Poornima attached to the munsif court at Tiptur in the district.
ACB sleuths raided when Poornima was accepting bribe from Gurubasavaswamy, an engineer of Karnataka Electricity Board. It is gathered that she had demanded bribe of Rs 40,000 to save the engineer from the problems he might face in the case in future. Out of this, Rs 20,000 was paid by way of credit to her account. ACB officials raided the court premises when the APP was accepting the balance Rs 20,000 in cash.
ACB officials continued to question the APP in her office till 10.30 pm on Monday.
In the year 2015, a dislodged electric pole had resulted in severing of an old woman's leg. The said APP was representing the prosecution in the case. In the case in which the KEB engineer was accused, through a judgement delivered on Monday, he was absolved of the charges by the court. Allegedly, the APP had placed demand for payment of bribe in order not to go on appeal against the said judgement.
