Goa Yet to Identify Location for Food Street

Even seven months after the ministry of Food Processing Industries’ investor’s meet suggested to have food street in Goa to develop food processing sector, Goa government is yet to shortlist probable location for the project.
 
“Government has not shortlisted or selected probable location for setting up of Food street,” state chief minister Digamber Kamat told Goa legislative assembly recently.
 
Kamat in a reply tabled on the floor of the house said that an investor’s meet and a meeting on development of meat, fish and marine processing sector as well as launching of Food Safety and Quality year 2008-09 was organized by Ministry of Food and Processing Industries on August 9, 2008 in Goa.
 
“One of the initiative identified for the development of the Food Processing Sector in Goa was development of one food street linked with Tourism for upgradation of food street vendors of North and South Goa to promote wholesome and hygienic food,” the chief minister stated.
 
Replying to a question tabled by Leader of Opposition Manohar Parrikar, Kamat said that the modalities for allotment of space to vendors in food street and number of vendors to be accommodated are yet to be decided by the government.
 
Kamat stated that the initiative identified for the development of the food processing sector in Goa would be fully supported by the ministry of food processing industries.
 
“However, the share of the contribution of the state government vis-à-vis share of the central government is not defined yet,” he added.
 
In a reply to another question, the chief minister said that Goa government has not yet proposed any mega food park with assistance from central scheme.
