Tanveer's brother, Mohammed Musaveer, said that Tanveer (23) was riding his motor bike with his friend, Danish in the pillion at around 2 am on April 10 for buying some medicines. He was speaking on the phone when Aiyappa and another police official on night duty stopped them near Dr B R Ambedkar Hospital. Aiyappa was angry as Tanveer did not immediately stopped talking on phone. In a fit of anger he began to hit Tanveer with his stick which broke into pieces. Tanveer questioned the policeman's authority to thrash him without any reason, which angered Aiyappa further, after which he picked up the broken cane and began to hit Tanveer again. The constable then took Tanveer to D J Halli station by Hoysala van. Once he reached the station, Tanveer was asked to remove his clothes after which several constables hit him repeatedly till he lost his consciousness. Musaveer said that they went to the police station after coming to know that Tanveerhe was detained, but the police released Tanveer only after registering petty, false cases. He said that Tanveer was also forced to write that he would not commit this mistake again, a hundred times before he was allowed to go. They also made Danish to slap Tanveer.
After reaching home, Tanveer continued to suffer from acute pain, and he was taken to a private hospital where the doctors said his kidneys had become dysfunctional because of internal injuries. Musaveer said that even after they succeeded in registering a complaint, the police booked case under sections that are bailable. He said that he had wanted the case to be registered under sections of the Indian Penal Code pertaining to attempt to murder and voluntarily causing grievous hurt.
Tanveer is undergoing dialysis now and Human Rights Commission has been approached. Because of this incident, Tanveer's marriage, which was to be held on May 3, has been postponed indefinitely pending his treatment.
