Panaji, Mar 26: Close on the heels of a demand made by Catholic Bishops Conference of India (CBCI), the right wing organizations too have stated that people should elect the candidates who are ready to vest with the right to recall non-performing or corrupt elected representatives.
''If the elected representatives do not meet the promises made in their election manifesto, then the voters should have the right to recall them,'' Hindu Janajagruti Samiti convener Jayesh Thali said.
The Samiti, which has taken up voters awareness campaign in Goa and Maharashtra ahead of the Lok Sabha polls along with like-minded organizations like Sanatan Saustha and Divya Jagruti Trust, has begun making people aware about the necessity to be armed with the right to recall the elected representatives.
''We have no confidence motions in assembly, municipality and panchayats. In this background, why can't the voter enjoy this right?,'' he questioned. Thali opined, the voters after electing their representative, are left high and dry in many cases. ''Parliament should enact a legislation giving such a right to the voters,'' he added.
Similar views were expressed by the CBCI which had resolved that the electorate should have the right to recall their elected representatives on the grounds of non-performance, corruption and lack of personal integrity.
The CBCI resolution had also said that the people should elect and promote only those candidates who do not have any criminal records or background and having the genuine concerns about the youth, women and particularly poor and marginalised at heart.
Meanwhile, HJS has began a campaign educating voters about electing non-corrupt, non criminal candidates, who will strive to save the country from inflation, reservation politics, terrorism, and anti-Hindu activities.
They have also appealed to all the voters to exercise their right to vote so as to achieve at least 90 per cent voters turnout.
