New Delhi, Apr 24: After revolutionising mobile data service by offering it at the cheapest prices in the world, Mukesh Ambani-owned Jio is all set to offer another ground-breaking mega offer for users all over India, in the form of 'GigaFiber' which will provide high-speed broadband internet, unlimited free landline phone and all major TV channel packages, all for just Rs 600 per month.
This could be a huge game-changer in not only broadband market, but also in cable network business. The dominance of GigaFiber could cost traditional cable TV operators heavily in the coming days.
Reliance Jio is currently pilot-testing GigaFiber in New Delhi and Mumbai, providing 100 gigabytes (GB) of data at 100 megabytes per second (mbps) for free, except for a one-time deposite of Rs 4,500 for a router.
It may be recalled that Reliance chairman Mukesh Ambani had announced Reliance Jio broadband service last year. The GigaFiber will be the largest greenfield fixed-line broadband rolled globally, with introduction in 1,100 cities across India, including Mangaluru.
The GigaFiber offer includes:
- 100 gigabytes (GB) of data at 100 megabytes per second (mbps) for free.
- Telephone and television services will be added in the next three months.
- The three services will remain free for a year
Reliance Jio GigaFiber will also offer an option to connect to 40 devices to its smart home network for a price of up to Rs 1,000.
With this offer, now competitors like BSNL, Airtel and other players are expected to bring more exciting offers to the internet and TV viewers because the delivery of TV channels to homes is expected to evolve through GigaFiber internet instead of traditional set-top boxes.
Registrations for Jio GigaFiber had opened in August last year. Those who are interested can visit: gigafiber.jio.com/registration for registration.
