Mangaluru Apr 22: "The rationing of drinking water within the limits of the city corporation needs to be withdrawn and water should be supplied on daily basis,” said former MLA J R Lobo.
Addressing media here on Monday, April 22, J R Lobo said," We do not have any problem for water source, but we are failing in water distribution method. Earlier when there was 18 MGD of water, we could easily manage supply in Mangaluru. At present the water level stands at 5.21 meters,”
"We should not depend only on Thumbay water. Bore well mapping has to be done also so that to know existing level in bore wells and also to revive the bore wells that are not functioning. So that this can also be used in distribution of the water to city,” said Lobo.
"Earlier we could manage water through open wells which still exist in Mangaluru. These wells should be cleaned and water should be made available for the city. When we face water crisis, citizen participation is also a key factor,” Lobo informed.
“Mangaluru South MLA Vedavyasa Kamath has accused Congress, which was the governing body of MCC, for the scarcity of water. Vedavyasa Kamath has been MLA since one year. So it was also his responsibility to look into this matter seriously. He needs to take concrete measures on the scarcity of water and should respond to the people where tanker is in need or about the need to dig bore wells,” Lobo pointed out.
“The officials are also giving false statements. Earlier they had said that there was enough water at AMR dam. Now they are saying that there is no water at the dam. Deputy Commissioner should look in to this matter. Congress delegation will meet Deputy Commissioner to discuss about the scarcity of the water,” concluded Lobo.
Former mayor Bhaskar Moily, Harinath, Mahabala Maarla and Shashidhar Hegde and others were present.
