Mangaluru: 68-year-old dies after lorry rams into bike near Kallapu

Mangaluru, Apr 21: A bike rider met a tragic death after a lorry rammed into his two-wheeler near Kallapu on national highway 66 here on Sunday April 21.

The deceased has been identified as Jerome D'Souza (68), a resident of Mitranagar, Kumpala.

Jerome was riding from Jeppu to Kumpala when, on reaching Kallapu, a lorry rammed into him from behind. Jerome lost his balance and fell on the road, and the lorry passed over him. Jerome died on the spot.

Mangaluru South traffic police have registered a case.

    Two wheelers and slow moving vehicles should always move on the left hand side of the road. Most two wheelers in Mangalore move slowly on the extreme right. This is inviting trouble.

    Every time accident take place at this Spot, people forget within days but what about the trauma the family faces
    Department do nothing to save such innocent lives
    Main reason is who's life is it
    Department should be taken to task,just dismiss them from work

    I see bike riders travelling from extreme right or middle of the road without any fear or road sense.
    We can't always blame big vehicles.

    Time and again a lot of us readers have raised concerns about implementation of lane discipline of large vehicles like trucks and buses and also about two wheelers riding all over the roads. I have also raised this concern on the twitter handle of our respected SP. However all of them are least bothered. These people are only fit to rwmove trumpets from buses and harass petty offenders, while they dont or cant do anything about bigger offenders. So all these comments are absolutely in vain. No value for human life. By all means the driver would have fled the scene only to surrender before a judge and get bail.

    Second similar news on two wheeler being smashed by a heavy vehicle today.. God knows how many more are not even reported.
    I always feel scared to ride my scooty on the roads. I still prefer to go by a taxi.
    it's high time to do something about this neglected issue.. we can't afford to lose more life.
