Udupi, Apr 21: A prominent fishermen leader, philanthropist and entrepreneur from the district, G Shankar is highly respected in the district. Shankar has courted some controversy after a video clip showing him finding fault with BJP's star campaigner, Tara and Byndoor MLA, B M Sukumar Shetty, was widely circulated in social websites.
The conversation happened during the participation of Shankar in the car festival of Goddess Mahishamardini temple at Bagwady near Byndoor in the recent past. In the video, he can be heard blaming the above two leaders. Shankar is seen saying that nobody can stop the fishermen community if they decide to revolt against the government and warns the concerned not to allow the situation to aggravate to that extent. "Our fishermen went missing over 150 days back but they are claiming that they are still searching. Does this make any sense? Why can't the government that is capable of launching surgical strikes track the missing fishermen?" he is seen pointedly asking sandalwood actress and BJP leader, Tara.
Tara is seen explaining that union defence minister, Nirmala Sitharaman, had met the family members of the missing fishermen and talked to them. She insisted that BJP has not overlooked this matter. She also said that the central government had announced formation of separate fisheries ministry in the budget which no government had done in the past.
Shankar responded by confirming that he is a Modi fan, duly noting that Modi had failed to meet the promises he had made. He is seen asking Tara not to try to cajole the fishermen with sweet words. He said the fishermen are facing a grave situation and asks her to bring this issue to the notice of Yeddyurappa.
Tara retorted by saying that the BJP does not believe in fooling others with sugar-coated words. She reminded him that the Congress has been doling out false promises to people since the last 60 years.
