Mangaluru, Apr 19: Nine students from the Centre for Advanced Learning (CFAL), Mangaluru have qualified for the finals of the prestigious National Talent Search Examination (NTSE). Srijan, Pannaga, Druhan, Aditya, Agney, Ahana, Hayyan, Calvin and Shaman from CFAL will appear in the second stage of NTSE, to be conducted by NCERT in the month of June 2019.
This year, about 1,05,558 students from Karnataka appeared in the exam, which was held in November 2018. However, only 395 students (0.37%) got through the first stage and made it to the final exams. A total of only 2000 students from across India got on to be NTSE scholars, making the exam harder to crack than NEET or JEE Advanced.
It is noteworthy to mention that most of the students from Dakshina Kannada and Udupi who have cleared the first and final stage of the exams in the last decade have been CFAL students.
About NTSE: National Talent Search Examination (NTSE) is one of the most prestigious national level scholarship programs conducted by the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) for Std. 10 students. The exam is held in two stages: Stage 1 (State/UT level) and Stage 2 (National level). The exam was introduced in 1963, with the objective of acknowledging intelligent students and nurturing their talent at a very young age. NTSE scholarship scheme provides financial assistance to meritorious students in the form of monthly scholarship. Students who are awarded the scholarship receive financial assistance up to Ph. D level in Social Sciences, Basic Sciences and Commerce. In addition to providing scholarships, a rewarding performance in NTSE is a valuable addition to the credentials of a child.
NTSE examinations test analytical and logical skills. A good understanding of the subject is needed and rote learning or memorization will not yield results.
