Mangaluru, Apr 19: A youth cycled all his way from Bengaluru to be able to cast his vote on the polling day, Thursday April 18, in a polling booth located in the city. The youngster who successfully took up this feat happens to be Aniket J from Vamanjoor.
Aniket (29) exercised his franchise at St Joseph School, Vamanjoor. He came to the booth in his bicycle. Aniket, son of Shekhar and Neela couple from Vamanjoor, undertook his bicycle ride from Bengaluru to the city for creating awareness among the people about the need to exercise the right to vote in the election.
He began his journey at Bengaluru at 4.45 am on April 17 and stayed overnight at Sakleshpur. He began his onward journey from there at 3.30 am on April 18 and reached the city at 1.45 pm. He visited the booth and voted for the candidate of his choice at 2.30 pm.
Because of a string holidays this time around, many people have undertaken visit to native place or relatives, picnic, trekking etc to make the best use of the opportunity, as this also coincides with school holidays, duly overlooking their duty to exercise their voting right. Voter turnout at Bengaluru had been very low last time just like this year. Aniket undertook his journey with the aim of spreading awareness about the need to vote in his bicycle, backed by the slogan, 'Your Vote Your Voice'.
