Mangaluru: Disorderly polling booth - voters jostling for space, video viral

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (SP)

Mangaluru, Apr 18: The voters who had come to take part in the polling booth No. 029 at Padua school in the Mangaluru (South) segment on Thursday April 18 morning faced lot of inconvenience.

Initially voting began with delay at this booth because of the malfunctioning of the electronic voting machine. The booth also appeared to be suffering from shortage of polling staff, which created problems for the people whose patience was tested by long hours they had to spend for casting their votes.

The fact that people are being sent in and out through a single door in the said polling centre added to the complications. This in effect made the voters to suffer further.

A social activist, Deepu Shettigar, who expressed resentment at the problems encountered at this booth, recorded the same on his cell phone and shared the recording through social websites. This video clip has since become viral.

This is ridiculous and beyond imagination. How come the polling booth was not ready for the voters to vote. Who is responsible for this mess and the hardship caused to the voters.

How is this person allowed to record an video on his phone, when the EC has clearly said that cell phones would not be allowed within 100 metres of a polling booth? By posting a video he is providing evidence against himself.

First of all the rule says that you cannot take cell phones inside the polling booth... He is outside the polling booth so it's fine... Secondly I had to go to vote to the same polling booth and believe me it was terrible... There was no provisions watsoever... There was a pregnant lady who stood for 1 hour....we actually fought and asked her to go inside and vote.... Voting started at 8...! Place was completely cramped.... This was pathetic organisation from the election committee.. The person who took the video is someone who suffered there ... So rather than commenting on why he took the video and who allowed him...support him for bringing it to the notice of the general public... Our country is stilll a DEVELOPING COUNTRY because of such kind of thinking ...!!!
