Udupi, Mar 21: The art exhibition titled 'Munjane Varna,' was held at Vibhooti Art Gallery of Jangama Math, Udupi recently.
K L Bhat, veteran artist, inaugurated the exhibition. Ganesh Mandara, principal, Art University presided over the function.
The artists expressed their anger at the failure of the state government in not appointing the drawing teachers for the government schools and neglecting the artists, at the exhibition.
Participating as the chief guest at the art exhibition, Sankar Kundagola, member, Karnataka Lalita Kala Academy, Bangalore- Dharwad, said, most schools in the state are conducting the drawing classes at primary and high school levels according to the syllabus and also appointing the teachers.
The government which considers the development of every faculty as an ideal situation, is not interested to pay attention towards this important issue, he criticized.
The present government is not giving prominence to the artists. Around 175 art schools in the state have been closed down due to the sharp decline in hiring of art teachers. Apart from encouraging the art students and teachers, the government must provide required facilities for their progress, he urged.
Over 2,883 posts of drawing teachers are vacant and only 350 teachers have been hired in the state. If the government does not take action on thisissue, the protest being conducted by the artists in Dharwad presently will be extended to all over the state, he informed.
