Mangaluru, Apr 15: A person from Kulai near Suratkal, working as screening officer at Sydney Airport, has left his job to be able to return to his native place in time to cast his vote. He took a decision to kick his job away as the airport officials in Australia rejected his application for leave till April 18 in order to be able to participate in the election.
The man who took this extraordinary step happens to be Sudhindra Hebbar (41) from Kulai near here. He had applied for leave to participate in the election but was granted leave only from April 5 to 12. His request for extension of leave till April 18 was not upheld by the concern. It said that it cannot entertain his request as the period coincides with heavy rush of passengers at the airport on account of Easter and Ramzan festivals.
Sudhindra, a diehard fan of Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, did not want to waste his vote as he feels that every vote counts to make Modi Prime Minister again. He therefore resigned from his job and took a flight to here.
Sudhindra has married an Australian citizen and holds permanent residency card there. In 2014 too he had come here for casting his vote. He had travelled back to Australia after exercising his franchise on April 17 that year, via Bengaluru. Hebbar says that he wants to stay here till May 23, when results would be declared, after which he would return to Australia and search for a new job there.
Hebbar says that he feels proud to be hearing at the airport from passengers from various nooks and corners of the world that India has a bright future. He says that he could not serve the country as a soldier and therefore feels that he can at least cast his vote and do his bit for the country.
