Mangaluru: Hundreds of faithful witness ‘Hosanna Saanz’, final days of Jesus

Mangaluru, Apr 15: Capuchin Friars in the city presented 'Hosanna Saanz', a portrayal of the final days of Jesus at St Agnes Special School ground on Sunday, April 14.

Wishing the artistes and organizers, Dr Peter Paul Saldanha, bishop of Mangaluru diocese, said, “This is a good move from organisers to show the final days of Jesus on stage. This will help all to realize the importance of the Holy Week. More and more religious programmes should be encouraged in the Holy Week. The more we are involved in these things, the more it will benefit us. Many priests and religious sisters of various congregations will perform on stage. This is a unique and meaningful attempt by Capuchin Friars.”



Later on behalf of the organizers, the bishop felicitated Reevan Martis, Christy Mascarenhas and Joel Pereira for their contribution towards the show.

Fr Cyprian D’Souza, advisor, Capuchin congregation, Karnataka province, and Michael D’Souza, NRI businessman and philanthropist were present.

The show presented the final six days of Jesus from his triumphant entry into Jerusalem to his eventual crucifixion on the sixth day. Three forms of arts along with lights and other electronic devices was a sight to watch.

Along with priestly congregations, Carmelites, SVD, Dominicans and Jesuits the religious congregations Bethany, SRA, Apostolic Carmelite, Sisters of Charity, Ursuline Franciscan participated in the show as co-organisers.

The portrayal contained songs of late Fr Walter Albuquerque, Fr Baptist Pais, Fr Melwyn D’Souza, Fr Charles Vas, Fr Alwyn Sequeira and Fr Chetan Lobo. Joel Pereira handled the music and Raveen Martis was the editor of videos.

The entire concept of ‘Hosanna Saanz’ was directed by Fr Paul Melwyn D’Souza.

    Congratulations dear Fr Melwyn Capuchin and team. Hosanna Sanz is indeed a creative and innovative way of proclaiming the message of Jesus Christ. It's really praiseworthy. It has given an apt message at the first day of the Holy Week. Praised be the name of the Lord.
