Bengaluru, Apr 15: Congress leaders have been questioning the contents of a mysterious-looking black box that was apparently heavy, and which accompanied the Prime Minister’s (PM) chopper cavalcade. the box had been offloaded at Chitradurga during the PM's election rally there. Congress party has also through its Tweet, had sought probe into the contents of this box.
As the issue seemed to be getting everyone's attention with all and sundry speculating he box's contents, Chitradurga district unit of BJP has issued a clarification saying that the box contained electronic things and banners containing the party's emblem for being set up on the dais from where the PM was expected to address the people after the rally.
He said that the black box had a set of teleprompters, cables, party logos etc, which were part of the Special Protection Group for being set up on the dais. He noted that the black box was in one of the three helicopters and the SPG personnel were required to take the box to the dais immediately upon touch-down. He said that time was of essence in this issue, and if the box was in the vehicles forming the convoy, it would have taken very long to reach the dais in time and get fitted before the PM began his address. "The box was handled by the SPG and PMO office technical team, and the district police under the guidance of inspector general of police, central range, had checked everything," he added.
K S Praveen, president of Chitradurga unit of BJP, who issued this clarification, commented that the over-enthusiasm shown by the Congress to capitalise on this issue shows that it is desperate for issues and is hankering to divert people's attention. He said that the tweet of Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee president, Dinesh Gundu Rao, showed that the Congress leaders are trying to make issue out of nothing and dismissed the demand for probe as not worth considering.
The teleprompter screen flashes regional issues and names which the PM might not remember because of various programmes he has to attend and address in a day, sources said.
Naveen asked Dinesh Gundu Rao to resign from his post for not being aware that what could be the items which accompany the PM's convoy. "He is president of the state unit of a national party and is expected to be abreast of these things. The Congress leaders, who are away from the corridors of power since sometime, seem to have forgotten about the security aspects concerning PM's tour," he commented.
Naveen wondered whether the Congress leaders are not aware that an unauthorised private vehicle cannot come close to PM's chopper. He advised the Congress leaders to use their common sense before making allegations.
