Mangaluru, Apr 14: In a tragic news, foodie Nikhil Pai of The 3 Hungry Men fame committed suicide on the night of Saturday April 13. He was 28.
Police sources said that Nikhil ended his life by consuming rat poison.
The exact reason for taking the extreme step is not yet known. However, police said that on Saturday April 13, he had a quarrel with his mother, after which he left from home. When he did not return, his family filed a missing complaint on Sunday morning.
Upon conducting a search, he was found dead in his apartment at Malemar on Sunday, sources said.
Co-founder of The 3 Hungry Men along with his friend Colin, Nikhil had earned much appreciation from foodies in Mangaluru for his reviews of restaurants in the city. His venture was Mangaluru's first food reviewing blog.
The 3 Hungry Men even appeared on national television programmes on food and travel featuring Mangaluru. The group was known for hosting food eating competitions which were immensely popular among the youth.
Apart from being an ardent foodie, Nikhil was also an amateur cartoonist. Following his father's death two years ago, he had taken up the management of Deepak Sales and Services fuel pump at Baikampady.
Nikhil is survived by his mother, wife, and his younger sister.
The body was shifted to AJ Hospital and later handed over to family.
Kavoor police have registered a case.
