New Delhi, Apr 13: Abhinandan Pathak, who looks, dresses, and presents himself like Prime Minister Narendra Modi, was an avid campaigner for BJP in the past. Not anymore. Pathak has said that he would fight this Lok Sabha election as an independent candidate from Varanasi constituency against Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, and will back Rahul Gandhi if he becomes victorious.
Pathak plans to file his nomination on April 26. He asserted that he is serious at getting elected, and will support Rahul Gandhi as the next Prime Minister if his campaign becomes successful. He said he is against people making fake, tall claims. Pathak filed his nomination from Lucknow constituency as an independent on Friday April 12.
Pathak gained popularity as he dressed and began to speak like Narendra Modi by even imitating the words and style in which they are delivered. He deserted Republican Party of India (Athawale), which is a unit of NDA, last month. He is particularly critical of Modi for his failed promise of bright future (Acche Din) and crediting Rs 15 lac to individual accounts of Indian citizens. After leaving Republican Party last month, Pathak had said that he was frustrated at being questioned about the deliverance of 'Acche Din' and hence stopped supporting BJP.
Polling will take place in Varanasi constituency on May 19. It has to be seen whether Pathak would be able to make some impact in the election with his looks and mimicking histrionics.
