New Delhi, Apr 13: Past few days multiple Facebook and Twitter posts were loaded up with continuous crescendo of comments and counter comments whether Rahul Gandhi and Mamata Banerjee were actually waiting to meet Imran Khan or not.
The curiosity now has to take a pause since many proofs have materialized to claim the picture been doctored from an original photo of a meeting between Pakistan Army Chief and Imran Khan on April 4 at his official residence in Islamabad.
The below image claims the opposition politicians are sitting in a corner of a room while the Pakistani prime minister talks to the country's army chief and was shared more than 4,500 times since it was published on April 7, 2019 in a Facebook post.
The claim has proved to be false by producing the below real image of a meeting between Pakistan’s Army Chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa and Khan on April 4, 2019. It was widely used by Pakistani media in their coverage of the meeting with a caption in Urudu translates “Prime Minister Imran Khan met Army Chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa. They exchanged views on important security related issues during the meeting.”
The misleading picture posted with a kannada caption says: “If you vote for Congress, you’re voting for Pakistan. Look at the picture, the slaves of Pakistan are sitting in the corner.”
The image purportedly shows Rahul Gandhi, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, Punjab minister Navjot Singh Sidhu and BJP-turned-Congress MP for Shatrughan Sinha sitting on chairs behind Imran Khan. It also shows Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal offering namaz outside the window.
Through google’s reverse image search it was found that the photo has been doctored from an original image posted on the Government of Pakistan’s official Twitter page @pid_gov on April 4, 2019. Rahul Gandhi was visiting Kerala’s Wayanad district to submit his election nomination papers to local authorities on April 4, 2019.
