Mangaluru, Apr 11: The district administration and police department have been busy making elaborate arrangements for the proposed participation of Prime Minister (PM), Narendra Modi, in the BJP's election campaign meeting being held at Nehru Maidan here on April 13. Both the district administration and police have been leaving no stone unturned in making fool-proof security arrangements for this visit.
High level officials of the special protection group vested with the responsibility of overseeing PM's security arrangements, visited the place on Wednesday and reviewed the arrangements. They also undertook journey on the road between the international airport and the Maidan and scrutinised preparations along with police officials.
A total of 1,472 police personnel including five superintends/deputy commissioners of police, 18 deputy superintendents of police/assistant commissioners of police, 36 police inspectors, 67 police sub-inspectors and other personnel have been deployed for security work. Contingent of Karnataka State Reserve Police, city armed reserve contingents, and two central reserve police force contingents etc have been given task of discharging duties at 34 sector mobiles, picketing in 144 areas regarded as sensitive, etc. CCTV cameras have been installed in various places, and hotels and lodges are being scrutinised. A close vigil is being kept at the airport and railway stations.
During the visit of the PM, depending on the density of traffic, vehicles would be diverted to other routes on temporary basis. City buses, service buses, contract carriage buses, inter-district buses etc will return after offloading passengers at Jyothi Circle, Mangaladevi and Navabharath Circle from 1 pm on April 13 to 7 pm that day. KSRTC buses will move to KSRTC bus stand via Pumpwell - Nanthoor - KPT and Kuntikan.
City police commissioner, Sandeep Patil, also said that parking of vehicles on the road between the airport to the Maidan has been banned from 8 am on April 13 till the PM goes back.
Separate arrangements have been made for vehicles coming for the programme. Buses coming from the direction of Udupi - Mulky - Suratkal, Kateel, Bajpe, Kavoor, Kottara Chowki etc can park their vehicles at Karavali Utsav ground, Urwa Market ground, Ladyhill church ground and Kulur Goldfinch city ground. Cars can be kept in Canara high school ground at Mannagudda.
Buses coming from Karkala, Moodbidri, Sullia, Puttur, Beltangady, Bantwal etc for which dropping point is Jyothi Circle can be parked at Ramakrishna school ground at Bunts Hostel, Kadri ground at Mallikatta, Padua hgh school ground, and St Agnes school ground. Cars can be parked in Shantinilaya ground at Balmatta.
For vehicles coming in from Ullal, Konaje, Deralakatte Kasargod etc which move via Pumpwell, Kankanady and Mangaladevi, dropping point will be Mangaladevi. Yemmekere ground and Vaman Naik ground Nandigudde will be parking spot. Cars can be parked at Morgans Gate ground.
