Hebri, Mar 16: Manipal Obstetric and Gynaecological Society's Village adoption programme was inaugurated here at Community Health Centre on Sunday.
Speaking after inaugurating the programme, Manipal University Pro Chancellor Dr H S Ballal appealed the women in the village to make maximum utilisation of the programme and assured all help from Manipal University for the continual implementation of the programme. Pregnant women should undergo prenatal tests to make out the fitness of the foetus and in case of any serious disease, the pregnancy can be terminated. Most of the cancers can be cured if detected in the initial stages. Rural India should be developed for the all round progress of the country, he added.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof and Head of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at KMC Dr Prathap Kumar stressed the role of gynaecologists in the promotion of women’s health.
Females should not be subjected to biased treatment. They should be treated on par with males. Anaemia related diseases are increasing among school going children, he opined.
This programme is being organised under the Village Adoption programme of FOGSI (Federation of Obstetric and Gynaecological Societies of India).
Under this programme, the members of the society would provide free health check ups for the women comprising antenatal test, ultrasound, scanning, screening for cervical cancers and other gynaecological problems on the 3rd Sunday of every month.
Manipal Obstetric and Gynaecological Society President Dr Muralidhar V Pai, Secretary Dr Jayarm Nambiar, Chief Medical Officer Dr Narasimha Nayak, Dr Prasanna Ballal and others were present.
