Udupi, Apr 9: While wedding invitations usually only have the names of the bride and groom, place, time and date of wedding, here is a wedding invitation which also states the importance of 2019 Lok Sabha elections, and requesting citizens to vote.
The invite of the wedding of Ganesh Kumar Padukone, son of Gauri Srinivas and Poornima, and daughter of Leelavati at Sheshakrishna convention hall, Tallur Parthikatte on May 1 has the message on Lok Sabha polls printed on it.
The invite also states that blessing is the only gift. Gifts will accepted by the bride and groom. Instead, guests with ink mark on their fingers that they have voted will be presented books worth Rs 250 as gifts. The programme will also have exhibition of books, cartoons and ancient Janapada items, the invite reads.
While people spend large sum of money for grand weddings and invitation cards, the couple which is getting married meaningfully, proclaiming the message of voting and encouraging reading of books has become a model to all.
It is a rare example on awareness of voting along with awareness programmes held by district administration and SVEEP committees.
