Mangaluru, Apr 9: Vijaya Bank retired officers on Tuesday, April 9 alleged that UPA government had started the merging process of the bank.
Addressing media here, Vijaya Bank retired officer Balappa Shetty said, "The process of bank merger was started by the UPA government. Today for the sake of votes they are delivering statements in favour of Vijaya Bank. The process of bank mergers started when UPA government was in power. Vijaya Bank was one of the banks among them listed.
“Veerappa Moily and Oscar Fernandes were ministers at the centre. They did not utter even a single word over the proposal of bank mergers. They had a chance to stop it. But after bank merging process began, MP Nalin Kumar Kateel is being blamed for this.
“The day Vijaya Bank was nationalised, it was snatched away from the coastal region. None of the leaders spoke against it. Now just they are delivering politically backed statements for their own benefit.
“During the road renaming issue, J R Lobo and Ivan D’Souza had pressurised the state government and brought a stay on it. These Congress leaders who did not utter a single word when Mulky Sundaram Shetty was insulted, do not have the moral right to speak about Vijaya Bank merger. alappa Shetty.
“Mithun Rai has said that if he comes to power, the merger will be withdrawn and Vijaya Bank will be restarted again. This impossible,” he added.
Vijaya Bank retired officers Jayanth Shetty, Somanath Shetty, Mohan Shetty and Ramakrishna Shetty were present.
