Mangaluru, Apr 9: Heavy rain which lashed coastal districts of Dakshina Kannada, Udupi and Kasargod as well as Kodagu on Monday April 8 evening succeeded in bringing down the temperature by a few notches. The rain was accompanied by thunder and lightning.
There was good rain all over Sullia taluk with thunder and lightning. The city and Mulky region experienced cloudy climate, but rains elsewhere brought relief from heat here too. There was heavy rain with strong wind, thunder and lightning in Beltangady taluk including Ujire, Naravi, and Dharmasthala. Subramanya, Kadaba, Vittal and Puttur were the other places which reported good rainfall with strong wind, thunder, and lightning.
Various parts of Kodagu district drenched in rain on Monday evening. The rain was particularly heavy in Madikeri, Somwarpet, Virajpet and Shanivarasanthe. Hailstorms were experienced in some parts of Somwarpet taluk. Fallen tree affected traffic at a few places in Kodagu district.
Several regions in Kasargod district got light to good rainfall on Monday evening. Kundamguli received good rain with thunder and lightning while places like Perla, Ukkinadka, Pallathadka,, Chevaru, Kumble, Cherkala etc received normal rain.
The rain is happening due to the influence of wind blowing from the direction of sea. The meteorologists said the rain will continue for two days because of this phenomenon. This is a normal development during this season. Scientist of Karnataka State Natural Disaster Management Centre, Sunil Gavaskar, said that normal rainfall coupled with lightning, wind, and thunder is expected to continue for two more days.
