Kochi, Apr 8: The long prayers and mourns of people in Kerala were unheard when the seven-year-old-boy who had been fighting for life at a hospital in Kochi breath his last on Saturday.
Eight days ago the boy was brought to the hospital in a very critical condition after being brutally beaten-up by his step-father named Arun. He was admitted in the hospital with a cracked skull, internal bleeding and lung injury, besides cuts and bruises all over his body. His younger brother also was injured.
The boy was said to be beaten up while saving his younger brother. Arun started kicking and beating the boy's four-year-old brother as a punishment for bed-wetting at 3 am. Seeing this, the boy tried to stop him. Arun allegedly flung him on the ground, smashed his head against a wardrobe, and used a walking stick to beat him up.
“The boy was put on ventilator support immediately he was admitted but his heartbeat stopped at 11:30 am and he stopped responding to medicines. His death was confirmed at 11.35 am,” Doctors at the private medical college hospital near Kolenchery said on Saturday.
The incident occurred in Thodupuzha area of Idukki district on March 28. Arun Anand (36), the accused, was arrested following the incident and booked for attempt to murder. The woman's husband died 10 months ago, after which Arun Anand had been staying with them.
“Appa beaten up Pappy and I wiped out the blood from Pappy’s face”, shuddered the younger brother in tears. Those words left the entire state in distress and the people have not yet recovered from the shocking incident.
