Sullia, Apr 8: Karnataka chief minister, H D Kumaraswamy, called the Prime Minister heartless, for terming blanket waiver of farmers’ loans of Karnataka government as sinful. He was speaking at an electioneering meeting organized in front of Lord Chennakeshava temple here on Sunday April 7 in support of coalition candidate of Dakshina Kannada Lok Saba constituency, Mithun Rai.
He pointed out that Modi did not come to the rescue of areca nut growers of coastal region when they faced crisis. He also blamed Modi for not implementing Gorakh Singh committee report on areca nut cultivation. "We, on the other hand, have waived loans of 44 lac farmers. We have already released Rs 15,580 crore for loan waiver scheme implementation," he claimed.
Kumaraswamy sought credit for releasing Rs 450 crore for adopting Israeli method of cultivation in the state, Rs 1,200 crore for providing buildings to government primary schools, high schools, and colleges, for releasing Rs 85 crore by way of aid to people suffering from ill health from the Chief Minister's Relief Fund etc.
Minister, U T Khader, speaking on the occasion, accused MP, Nalin Kumar Kateel, of owning inertia in respect of multifarious problems faced by the people of the coast. Therefore, he said he is sure that young, dynamic candidate, Mithun Rai, would be the people's choice this time.
Congress state vice president, Prof K E Radhakrishna, and candidate, Mithun Rai, addressed the gathering.
District Congress president, Harish Kumar, MLC, Bhoje Gowda, former ministers, Amarnath Shetty and B Ramanath Rai, Kanachur Monu etc were present. Bharat Mundody delivered introductory address. N Jayaprakash Rai welcomed. M B Sadashiva presented the programme.
