Puttur, Apr 3: In a tragic incident, three children of the same family died after accidentally falling into a water tank at Uddangala in Bettampady here on Wednesday April 3.

The deceased have been identified as Jitesh (13), Vismita (13) and Chaitra (9).

Jitesh, son of Uddangala resident Ravi Moolya, was studying in standard seven at Mittadka government highery primary school. Vismita was the daughter of Ravi Moolya's brother Harish Moolya. She too was studying in standard seven in the same school. Vismita's sister Chaitra was a student of fourth standard.

On Wednesday evening, the children were playing near the water tank that was constructed by the local panchayat under the drinking water supply project three months ago.

While playing, the children reportedly climbed on the tank and accidentally fell in.

Following the incident, the locals protested against the gram panchayat for not locking up the lid on the tank. They demanded that the gram panchayat president and assistant commissioner visit the spot. After a while, panchayat president Jayaram Poojary, PDO Shailaja Prakash and AC Krishnamurthy visited and took stock of the incident.

Sampya police have registered a case.

Hard and tragic.Three children from same family are no more.whatever the reason was whoever the cause ,doesnt matter now to since they are dead.Heartfelt sympathy to the family. Were the parents not around to lookafter the children during the play? But I say responsible panchayat should pay a good amount to the families as compansations.May their souls rest with angels.

State is legally responsible under for Torcious / vicarious liability and such negligence, which caused death of the victims due to the negligence of the staff of panchayath, who did not close the lid properly nor locked the tank, particularity when it is located within the reach of children and endangered their life and it can also be challenged under Article 226 of Indian constitution before Hon'ble High Court.
