Beltangady, Mar 7: Through an order issued on Friday March 6, Dakshina Kannada district deputy commissioner has banned vehicular movement on the Charmadi Ghat road from March 6 to May 31.
This step was deemed necessary for enabling the contractors to undertake permanent repairs to the road, driving on which has become risky due to the caving in of the road at seven slopes on the ghat stretch. The government wants to undertake permanent repairs to the road before the monsoon sets in.
The vehicles are barred from entering the ghat section of the road beyond Kakkinje. During the above period, vehicles moving on this road have been asked to take deviation through Ujire-Periyashanti-Sakleshpur and Moodigere towards Chikmagalur. Vehicles bound for Mangalore from Chikmagalur via Dharmastala will have to take the same route upto Periyashanti and Dharmastala and then to Mangalore via Uppinangady, the order explained.
