Bengaluru, Mar 28: A faculty member of Mount Carmel English High School in Bengaluru was sacked after its question paper for class 8 students asked if a farmer's friend was an earthworm or chief minister H D Kumaraswamy or BJP leader B.S. Yeddyurappa, an official said on Thursday.
"The faculty member responsible for setting the question paper was dismissed from the post," Raghavendra, the principal of the school in the city's southwestern suburbs, told the media here.
The question, which was asked in the annual examination paper for Kannada language for 8th standard students, soon went viral on social media platforms for its political tone.
It was included in the examination without the knowledge of the administration, the principal added.
BJP state unit president Yeddyurappa calls himself a "raitha bandhu" (farmers' friend), while Kumaraswamy has often referred to himself as the farmers' leader, as a means of wooing the state's farming community.
Kumaraswamy's party, Janata Dal-Secular (JD-S), also depicts a female farmer on its green flag (symbolic of fields and the farming community).
The question in the examination, however, did not intend to promote any political party or ideology, the school administration asserted.

Bengaluru, Mar 28: Bizzare multiple choice questions with even more weirder options in a Bengaluru school question paper has triggered controversy, and the teacher responsible for setting the questions has been sacked.
Students of Class 8 of Mount Carmel English High School in Rajarajeshwari Nagar, Bengaluru were asked a simple question in the paper, “Who is the friend of the farmer?” However, the options kicked open a controversy. The students had to choose between H D Kumaraswamy, B S Yeddyurappa and earthworm.
While the question seemed hilarious, it soon went viral when it was shared on internet grabbing media attention.
However, twitterati noticed that the strange question came a few weeks before the Lok Sabha elections. While the correct answer for the question is earthworms, it is no secret that Yeddyurappa and Kumaraswamy are portraying to be the ‘farmer's friend’ fighting on their issues and introducing benefits to gain a political edge.
While students claimed it’s embarrassing to see their question paper trolled on social media, the school was quick to clarify that they do not support any political party. The teacher who set the paper has been sacked.
Another funny question featured on the paper was, “What has complete authority on nose?” The options were handkerchief, towel and Anacin.
