Udupi, Mar 3: Sources claim, that D K Taradevi for Udupi constituency and Janardhan Poojary for Mangalore were in the forefront of reckoning, as probable Congress party candidates for the coming Loksabha election. Many leaders who met Ghulam Nabi Azad during his visit to Bangalore to finalize the list of candidates, are learnt to have impressed upon him to finalize the above two names.
Congress district president is said to have supported the candidature of Priyanka Gandhi for the local constituency, while leaving the final choice to the party high command. Some leaders actively rallied behind Taradevi, with some others arguing that it would not be in the interest of the party to allot ticket to candidates who have earlier lost the election. Names of B L Shankar and Jayaprakash Hegde are also making the rounds, as expected earlier. Leaders like Pramod Madhwaraj and ex-MLA U R Sabhapathy are on a Delhi visit to drive home their points of view with the national leadership of the Congress.
Chances of Janardhan Poojary being chosen as the Congress candidate for Mangalore seat are very bright, as he has the backing of scores of Congress men. There are chances that the high command might try to appease Poojary and Veerappa Moily, by distributing the two constituencies between them. As Poojary has earlier won from Mangalore a number of times, he may be given this constituency, political pundits strongly believe.
