Kundapur: Illegal sand transport from Mangaluru to Bhatkal – 7 arrested

Kundapur, Mar 26: Kundapur police intercepted a lorry in which sand was being transported illegally from Mangaluru to Bhatkal on Monday, March 25. Seven people were arrested. The sand, lorry and an Innova car was seized and case was registered.

The arrested suspects are Pavoor Kasargod resident Abdul Sattar (23), resident near SMS school, near Varamballi, Brahmavar, Manjunath Dammooru (19), Srikanth (20), Varamballi Gandhinagar, Yelaburga resident Sharanappa (19), Bejai, Mangaluru resident Rajesh Shetty (40), Kulai, Surathkal, Mangaluru resident Sukesh Kotian (34) and Pavoor, Manjeshwar resident Naushad Ali VV (21).

Police who were on patrol on NH66, Beejadi on Monday morning intercepted the lorry. The lorry stopped a little further from the police personnel and the accused tried to flee. Meanwhile, accused who were in the in an Innova car behind the lorry also tried to escape. Police arrested all the seven accused and seized the lorry, sand and Innova car. A case has been registered at Kundapur police station.

    To all the people saying : "Find another job" -- You should try finding one locally that can sustain a family of 4 in Udupi, if there is one that is!

    The only real business in Udupi apart from fishing and religious tourism is "Construction".

    Udupi is solely surviving on overseas and domestic remittances. This has primarily boosted construction. Talk to any marble/tiles supplier, hardware/constructions material supplier, a daily wage labourer or even to an accountant locally; all you will is hear is that there is no sand, hence there is no business -- Sand extraction may not have been done legally always but it is aiding construction, the backbone of Udupi.

    Even education business, apart from Manipal group, due to shortage of students is struggling to keep up -- In short too many educational institutions.

    I am a guy in my late 20's who have ventured out in search of work, all I see in Udupi is a dying town

    We never thought this day will come for sand unlike 25 , 35 years back we were getting like free - only we had to pay Rs.50/- to person who has taken auction from Panchayath where we could fill yourself one truck load and bring the sand.

    No sooner than later one day day will come police will be seizing Water smuggling from one district from another.
    What Acche-Din we can expect?

    Poor people struggling for built their house taking loan from bank and some finance company due to this sand problem , is anybody inquire or take action about big buildings work done smoothly, from where they getting huge quantity of sand.

    Sand mining is wrong , I agree but it can be legalized by deputing the corrupt free officer to everything will be under safe condition. Instead of sand constructing the building with M SAND will be more dangerous and strength also not will achieve and can life of human in danger.
    This should be treated seriously. Sand mining is not much dangerous as compared which I told bcz daily 100 of building are constructing in cities which is poor quality. And painfully telling that our native daily wage earning brothers are roaming helplessly without job. And surely agriculture will also lost due to this lack of soil.

    There is a chain between this issue with agriculture. Because persons are going to daily wages are mostly background with agriculture who are going to work on winter on summer and rainy season are mostly doing agriculture. Because of non availability of job they are traveling to city offcourse one day agriculture will vanishes. I knew this personally BCS I m also in other city which my background also from agriculture background :(:(:(...
