Kundapur, Mar 26: Kundapur police intercepted a lorry in which sand was being transported illegally from Mangaluru to Bhatkal on Monday, March 25. Seven people were arrested. The sand, lorry and an Innova car was seized and case was registered.
The arrested suspects are Pavoor Kasargod resident Abdul Sattar (23), resident near SMS school, near Varamballi, Brahmavar, Manjunath Dammooru (19), Srikanth (20), Varamballi Gandhinagar, Yelaburga resident Sharanappa (19), Bejai, Mangaluru resident Rajesh Shetty (40), Kulai, Surathkal, Mangaluru resident Sukesh Kotian (34) and Pavoor, Manjeshwar resident Naushad Ali VV (21).
Police who were on patrol on NH66, Beejadi on Monday morning intercepted the lorry. The lorry stopped a little further from the police personnel and the accused tried to flee. Meanwhile, accused who were in the in an Innova car behind the lorry also tried to escape. Police arrested all the seven accused and seized the lorry, sand and Innova car. A case has been registered at Kundapur police station.
