Bengaluru, Mar 24: B R Balakrishnan, chief commissioner of Income Tax (IT) department of Karnataka and Goa division has clarified that the copies of the diaries that Central Congress leaders released to the press, alleging that the same belong to state BJP president B S Yeddyurappa, are duplicate (forged) and loose documents.
Speaking at a press conference on Saturday, March 23, Balakrishnan said, "The pages of the diary that was confiscated during a raid on one of the influential ministers of the state were sent to the forensic science laboratory. The officials of the laboratory had given a report that it is not possible to analyze those pages as their photocopies. In addition, according to some judgments given by the Supreme Court, it is not possible to consider the xerox copy of a diary as valuable evidence. Also, the first page that is published by English fortnightly is not confiscated at all. So according to us, the records in the diary are duplicate."
"There is a possibility that the photocopies of the dairies are released to influence the inquiry. However, it is not at all possible for our inquiry to be misguided," added Balakrishnan.
The IT department has expressed suspicion on the reality of the records of the diary that was released to the press by Congress leader Randeep Surjewala. In addition, the central board of direct taxes has given a press release which says, "The loose pages of the said diary were confiscated from the house of Congress leader D K Shivakumar, during the raid that was conducted on August 2, 2017. So the in order to examine the duplicate copies, the same was sent to the central forensic laboratory at Hyderabad. However, the forensic organization had asked for the original diary. So there is a suspicion on the documents released by Surjewala."
In the midst of all these development, former CM Siddaramiah has ridiculed and said, "Even Prime Minister Narendra Modi is aware of the truth about the entries in the diary of B S Yeddyurappa. For the same reason, he is not speaking anything on the diary."
