Udupi, Mar 23: The infighting within the Congress party in the district is out in the open now. The main reason for the discontent is giving away the seat to JD(S), which does not have any voter base in the district. This may prove costly to the alliance candidate Pramod Madhwaraj.
AICC member Amrit Shenoy, an aspirant to contest on Congress ticket in the constituency was annoyed that the seat was offered to JD(S). He is now set to contest as an independent candidate.
There is immense pressure from his supporters, who are posting messages on social media that Shenoy will contest as an independent candidate. The Udupi-Chikkamagalur constituency was given to JD(S) as per the alliance agreement between the coalition partners. However, as there is no suitable candidate in the JD(S) party, Pramod Madhwaraj of Congress got the B Form from JD(S) to contest the election.
Industrialist Amrit Shenoy has made all preparations to file his nomination as a rebel candidate. He has said that he will take a decision after holding discussions with his admirers and workers of Congress party. If Shenoy gets into the fray, the Congress vote bank will definitely divide.
Pramod Madhwaraj’s attempt to pacify Amrit Shenoy failed. Now Shenoy is asking the opinion of his supporters. “I have worked day and night for the party. In all the elections that have gone by, I have visited both the districts for campaigning. Though JD(S) has no presence in both the districts, the seat is offered to them. This has caused setback to Congress,” he said.
