Mangaluru, Mar 20: The district BJP's legal cell has filed a complaint with the city police commissioner urging action against a person for allegedly circulating 'false, defamatory and derogatory' messages about MP Nalin Kumar Kateel on WhatsApp.
In the complaint, advocate B Purandar Shetty representing the district BJP stated that a person named Harish Kotian and his 'henchmen' have been circulating fabricated material on WhatsApp about Nalin Kateel, who is set to be the BJP's Lok Sabha candidate from Dakshina Kannada this time too.
In the days leading to the last general elections in 2014, there were controversial reports in the media, especially on news channels, against which Nalin had approached the court and obtained an order restraining the media from carrying such reports, photographs and visuals. The complaint states that despite the court order, Harish Kotian and his accomplices have been circulating false messages relating to the controversial reports, with the intention to malign the MP's reputation.
The complaint also states that 'opponents' of Nalin Kumar Kateel have been sending 'false and frivolous photos and articles' against him through WhatsApp in order to lower his image in the eyes of the public with the 'sole intention' of making unlawful electoral gain.
It may be mentioned here that a few days ago, the audio of a purported BJP worker went viral on WhatsApp wherein he threatened to commit suicide if the party gave the ticket to Nalin Kumar Kateel again. However, according to sources, the BJP high command has decided to go with Nalin this time too.
